Some teachers prefer that no running head appear on the first page. The running head of a research paper. Placement of the List of Works Cited The list of works cited appears at the end of the paper, after any endnotes.
Begin the list on a new page. The list contains the same running head as the main text. The page numbering in the running head continues uninterrupted throughout.
For example, if the text of your research paper including any endnotes ends on page 10, the works-cited list begins on page Center the title, Works Cited, an inch from the top of the page fig.
If the list contains only one entry, make the heading Work Cited. Double-space between the title and the first entry. The parenthetical citation appears outside the quoted material. This header should include your last name, followed by a space and the page number.
Your pages should be numbered with Arabic numerals 1, 2, 3… and should start with the number 1 on your title page. You should also italicize rather than underline words or phrases you want to lend particular emphasis—though you should do this rarely. You might have to select Personal to find your template. Avoid using any quotation marks or changing the right margin. The only thing that should change is the left margin to indent the paragraph for the quote. Numbering Whenever writing an MLA essay, you should number your pages consecutively using Arabic numerals i. You need to ask them what their individual specifications are in terms of what they want you to do.
You should place the page number in the upper right corner of each page. Spacing MLA essay format calls for double spacing throughout the paper.
It is acceptable to use abbreviations in all of these sources. Citations This handout presumes you already know why you should cite your sources to establish your authority, to introduce persuasive evidence, to avoid plagiarism , etc. Indentation All paragraphs should be indented by 0.

Refrain from bolding, underlining or italicizing your headlines. Give yourself a pat on the back! Title your new page: Works Cited MLA style calls for no extra spaces above or below the page title; no special formatting. Use hanging indent paragraph format. On a new, double-spaced line, center the title fig. The general idea is to use a point font, have 1-inch margins, double-space the paper, include page numbers, and to include your personal information in the upper-left hand corner.
A research paper does not normally need a title page, but if the paper is a group project, create a title page and list all the authors on it instead of in the header on page 1 of your essay. While it may seem tempting to place a few extra lines between the heading, title, and beginning of the paper, lines should all be double spaced. Contact our team for additional information. Electronic Submission There are at present no commonly accepted standards for the electronic submission of research papers.
They do not find all errors and sometimes label correct material as erroneous. This part can be tedious and tricky; leave yourself plenty of time to do it. Always follow your instructor's guidelines. When including abbreviations, do not place periods in between capital letters. As always, if your instructor provides you with specific directions, follow his or her guidelines. A hanging indent is often needed for all references.
These types of footnotes and endnotes are helpful when explaining translations, adding background information, or sharing counterexamples to research. It is important for the reader to be able to distinguish the difference between italicized and regular font, so if you choose a font style different than Arial or Times New Roman, make sure the difference between the two type styles is evident.

Double-space the entire list. Citations MLA referencing is often referred to as an author-page style.
